Background and Aim:Regardless of the positive economic effects, the adverse environmental impacts of mines make it necessary to assess environmental impacts. The purpose of this study was to determine the environmental impacts of granite and marble quarries in Khorasan Razavi province. Materials and methods:In this descriptive-analytical study after field visits, information was collected through a checklist and data analysis was performed using RIAM and Leopold matrices. Results:Analysis of mine information through the Leopold matrix showed that the average overall ranking in all environments including cultural, socio-economic, biological and physical was -1.46, which indicates poor negative consequences. Also, the most harmful consequences were in the biological environment. According to the results of the RIAM matrix, the most negative impacts of mining occur in the physical-chemical environment. Conclusion:Exploration activities of the granite and marble quarries in Khorasan Razavi with respect to the RIAM matrix generally have moderate to slight negative effects on the physico-chemical environment and with respect to the Leopold matrix have minor adverse effects on the biological and physico-chemical environments. The continuation of exploitation of the Khorasan Razavi stone mine along with environmental considerations can, in addition to realizing the national development goals, lead to the creation of job opportunities and the construction of infrastructural facilities.

Background & Objective: Landfill which is known as the most common strategy for disposal of solid waste is considered as the latest option of solid waste management; however it cannot be removed completely. For this mean, the environmental impact assessment (EIA) is regarded as an important strategy to minimize its negative impacts. The aim of this study was to assess the situation of Hamedan landfill. Materials & Methods: For this object, in order to assess the environmental impact of Hamedan landfill was conducted by rapid environmental impact assessment matrix (RIAM) based on field visits and information gathering from multiple sources in 1393. Disposal option was evaluated by aferementioned method based on environmental components (physical-chemical (PC), Biological- ecological (BE), sociological-cultural (SC) and economical-operatinal (EO)). Results: The results showed that continuance of landfill current trend had the most negative scores with environmental score (ES) of -1311.. The highest and lowest negative scores belonged to the PC and SC with -768 and -40,respectively . Conclusion: In accordance with the obtained results, continuance of landfill current trend will led to the unacceptable health conditions along with severe environmental damages.

Background & objective: Evaluation of the effects on environment is an executive view for sustainable development. Solid waste is one of the factors that pollute the environment and the management, control and proper hygiene play a key role in promoting the health of society. So, in establishing the composting plants, the environmental issues should be considered and a proper place for these plants must be chosen. This can be one of the most important tasks in waste management programs in developing countries. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of these plants on environment and the procedures to be carried out in this field. Materials & Methods: This research was a review study. By Using the key words (such as compost plants, environmental impact assessment, Iran) the related articles on Web sites google schoolar, iranmedex , SID, Magiran and civilica were searched and studied. Results: In this study, Articles in the period 1995 to 2016 were studied and 40 papers were selected. One paper Environmental impact assessment study methods, One paper method Adkins and Brooke,7 paper method Leopold matrix, one paper matrix math, one paper matrix method of rapid, 2 paper Matrix interactions, the Check list for assessing and one paper matrix type III. Conclusion: In most reviewed studies, the method of Leopold matrix has been used to assess the environmental impact of compost plant. Leopold matrix method has been considered by researchers and experts because of its accuracy, surveying in the construction and operation phases, using two-dimensional tables to express the effects of a compost plant project on the environment, determining suitable place And finally scoring waypoint is placed by specialists for more Compost Plant

Background&Objectives: In regard to the serious consequences of improper waste disposal, environmental impact assessment techniques are used to evaluate the different scenarios for waste management and minimize the negative impacts. The aim of this study was the use of Iranian Matrix and RIAM to minimize environmental impacts in Qaemshahr landfill and presenting suitable methods for efficient waste management Matrial&Methods: In this study, the existing condition of Qaemshahr landfill was compared with human’s environmental criteria for MSW landfills based on Department of the Environment (DOE) of Iran. Meanwhile, EIA of Qaemshahr solid waste landfill was carried out with two methods, RIAM and Leopold Matrix. The upgrading of existing landfill, reconstruction with compost plant and relocation of landfill were evaluated according to physiochemical, physicochemical (PC), biological-ecological (BE), sociological/cultural (SC), economical/operational (EO) economical-social and cultural components. Results: The results showed that Qaemshahr landfill lacks the environmental criteria for MSW landfills. Also, the RIAM and Iranian matrix results indicated that upgrading of existing landfill, construction of compost plant, relocation and construction of the sanitary landfill have total environmental scores as -793 and -2.26, -387 and -2.22 , -69 and -0.76 respectively. Conclusion : It is noticeable that the current process of landfill in Qaemshahr will lead to harmful health consequences. So, construction of landfill space (the third option) was chosen as the most suitable option with as little harm as possible on the environment.
